ACADEMIC PROMOTION 2020/2021: MNHS Internal Processes

The 2020/2021 Academic Promotions round will be open for applications between 5 October - 13 November 2020.  If you are planning on applying for promotion this year, it is time to begin the pre-promotion process.  Please follow the instructions below to get started:

  1. Email the Faculty Research Office (FRO) at medicine.research@monash.edu and let them know you plan on applying for promotion in this round.
  2. The FRO will inform you of your promotion reference period i.e. the period of activity that will be considered in your application and metrics report. This is usually 3-5 years, depending on your last promotion.  If you have an unusual or complex case, we will refer you to the HR Academic Promotion team.
  3. Once you have confirmed your reference period, use your myPerformance Dashboard to evaluate your metrics against the MNHS Academic Performance Standards.  You can also use the Dashboard to see if you need to update or correct any of your research activity data in Pure.  All data in your Dashboard is drawn from Pure.
  4. Make any necessary updates to your Pure profile.
  5. Schedule a Zoom meeting with Prof Ross Coppel, Senior Deputy Dean Research (for candidates applying for promotion to Levels D and E) or Prof Mike Ryan, Deputy Dean Research and Research Infrastructure (for candidates applying for promotion to Level C) to discuss your case for promotion.  Please contac tLorraine Mascarenhas via email after 21 September to make an appointment.  Please note, you must submit a draft of your application to medicine.research@monash.edu prior to your meeting.  You will receive more information about this when you schedule the appointment.
  6. After you have confirmed that your research activity data in Pure is correct and up to date, the FRO will provide you with an official metrics report.  You can discuss your metrics, as well as your draft application, with Profs Coppel or Ryan at your meeting.
We also strongly suggest that you attend a MNHS Promotion Information Session, either on 21 September (Basic Research) or 24 September (Clinical Research).  You can find the details, including registration links, here.   You can also download the application and other relevant materials on the HR Academic Promotion website.

The FRO manages the academic promotion process at the Faculty level and we are available to answer your questions, as well as help you with your metrics, research data and myPerformance Dashboard.  Please email medicine.research@monash.edu or phone Dr Heather Graybehl on 990 55719.
