 Rathina Ragavan

School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS) honours student Ms Rathina Srinivasa Ragavan has been ranked the highest applicant for the Macquarie University Doctor of Medicine program, receiving the Macquarie University MD Medical Leader of the Future scholarship award.

The prestigious scholarship is worth $50,000 per year for the duration of her graduate medical degree.

This year, Rathina completed her Biomedical Science (Honours) under the supervision of Professor Amanda Thrift and Professor Roger Evans.

Her project investigated the associations between knowledge and awareness of hypertension, and the management of hypertension in rural India.

“My experiences this year with the Stroke and Ageing Research team made me realise my passion for research, particularly in the investigation of issues in medicine and health sciences,” Rathina said.

“Moreover, I gained valuable knowledge about statistics, public health issues, scientific writing, and time management.”

After completing the Doctor of Medicine program and gaining clinical experience, Rathina plans to pursue more research opportunities and undertake a PhD.
