Library response to COVID-19

Monash library have provided the following information for academic staff and graduate students in relation to COVID-19.

For MNHS academic staff and graduate researchers

• Hargrave-Andrew and Caulfield library buildings will be closed until 30 April, with staff working from home.
• Matheson and Peninsula libraries are open to Monash users from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, in particular to support students living on these campuses in Monash Residential Services.
• All current loans have been extended to the end of the semester and returns are discouraged. No fines will be levied.
• The ability to place a hold on a book from a Monash library has been discontinued. All holds currently waiting for pickup will be mailed out by Express Post.
• MNHS academic staff and Graduate Research students are supported via Zoom with individual and group sessions. • MNHS Library seminars and workshops for students have been, and will continue to be, converted to online formats, including live Zoom sessions.
• A new LiveChat service will be available as a Library-wide facility for student enquiries as an addition to the current telephone help service.

Assigned texts and print-only materials

• Due to the current uncertainties in availability and supply chain risks, the need to protect the health of all staff and students from risk of transference of the COVID-19 virus through manual handling, and the Library’s focus to align with virtual course delivery, the purchase of print and physical items for the Library will be suspended for the foreseeable future.
• Library staff are actively sourcing required texts in e-format wherever possible, and working to increase existing e-access where it is needed (publisher restrictions on simultaneous access may apply). We can also work with you to discuss alternative solutions and readings, in particular where material is only available in print format.
