Tour de Force

Hoping we never have to be in this bed, but if we do we’ll be in safe hands. We were taken on a tour of the newly opened Monash Victorian Heart Institute (VHI) last week by Eliza Cobb. The VHI is based in the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH), the first cardiac hospital in Australia, and one of only 43 dedicated cardiac hospitals in the world.

Situated on Monash University’s Clayton campus, Monash Health's VHH integrates clinical cardiology services with the university's research and education to create a centre of excellence, and is raising the profile of cardiovascular research, treatment and training.

Eliza showed us around the biomedical and engineering labs, biobank and minus 80s (science parlance for very cold freezers for blood and tissues samples), simulation suites, education and work spaces. Everything is shiny, new and world-leading. We felt grateful to be Victorians.
