Dr Simone Gibson

The School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS) welcomes Dr Simone Gibson as our inaugural Director of Education.

A senior lecturer in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food, Dr Gibson will lead the SCS Education Committee to deliver new educational offerings for students and health professionals, and promote interdisciplinary education and learning for SCS students.

Dr Gibson said she looks forward to collaborating with educators within SCS and identifying the key educational needs of our staff, students and the health professional community at Monash Health.

“I hope together we can strengthen and scale the excellent education that is already offered, as well as develop new, innovative and accessible short courses,” Dr Gibson said.

Dr Gibson teaches clinical dietetics in the Master of Dietetics course, and works closely with placement partners and clinical educators. She is a lead educator and steering committee member for the "Food as Medicine" Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) which has had over 120,000 enrolled learners, as well as online short courses targeted towards the professional development needs in nutrition of health professionals.

Dr Gibson’s research areas include clinical education, online learning in nutrition, as well as in clinical dietetics. In 2017, she received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence.  Dr Gibson is also an affiliate of the Monash Institute for Health and Clinical Education (MIHCE).

Dr Gibson’s role at SCS is one day per week, and she is available at the Monash Health Translation Precinct on Wednesdays.  She can be contacted at simone.gibson@monash.edu
