The School of Clinical Sciences at
Monash Health (SCS) welcomes Dr Simone Gibson as our inaugural Director of
Education.
A senior lecturer in the
Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food, Dr Gibson will lead the SCS
Education Committee to deliver new educational offerings for students and
health professionals, and promote interdisciplinary education and learning for
SCS students.
Dr Gibson said she looks forward
to collaborating with educators within SCS and identifying the key educational
needs of our staff, students and the health professional community at Monash
Health.
“I hope together we can strengthen
and scale the excellent education that is already offered, as well as develop
new, innovative and accessible short courses,” Dr Gibson said.
Dr Gibson teaches clinical
dietetics in the Master of Dietetics course, and works closely with placement
partners and clinical educators. She is a lead educator and steering committee
member for the "Food as Medicine" Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs)
which has had over 120,000 enrolled learners, as well as online short courses
targeted towards the professional development needs in nutrition of health
professionals.
Dr Gibson’s research areas include
clinical education, online learning in nutrition, as well as in clinical
dietetics. In 2017, she received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in
Education and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr Gibson is also an affiliate of the
Monash Institute for Health and Clinical Education (MIHCE).
Dr Gibson’s role at SCS is one day
per week, and she is available at the Monash Health Translation Precinct on
