
Richard deserves this recognition of his
research excellence and vision as a leader in his field, as well as the
clinical impact and innovation of his work. Head of CIIID’s Gastrointestinal
Infection and Inflammation Group, Richard will use his five-year $611, 645
NHMRC Research Fellowship to continue dissecting the role of NOD-like receptors
(NLRs) in Helicobacter pylori disease, which is linked to development of peptic
ulcer disease, gastric cancer, and mucosa-associated-lymph tissue lymphoma, a
central focus of his team’s work. By improving physiological and molecular
understanding of this disease, the hope to deliver improved diagnostics and
treatments, as well as develop a vaccine.
