OHS Induction for new staff and students, visitors and contractors

All new staff, students, visitors and contractors to the School are required to do an OHS induction as soon as they start. The induction is to highlight the hazards, risks, rules and emergency procedures associated with their work/study environment.
OHS induction has 3 components - the online induction, the local area induction and other specific area inductions if required.

  • The online OHS induction provides the new staff a broad overview of Monash University’s OHS policies, procedures, and management system and an understanding of their safety responsibilities. Online induction can be accessed by using the Monash authcate and password from the following website:
The Monash University online OHS induction
  • The local area OHS induction program aims to provide safety information specific to the building and work area where the new employees will be working.
  • Any other area specific inductions such as the Animal House, Tissue Culture labs etc. if relevant to the new staff/students’ work.
Procedure for completing the OHS Induction at SCS:

Supervisors must forward the name/s and contact details of new employees to Rachael Unwin at SCS Reception (Email: scs.reception@monash.edu). Rachael while maintaining a record of all new starters to the School, will then forward the names weekly to Ganeema Tokhi and Dale Cary.
The local area induction is provided by Dale Cary while Ganeema Tokhi ensures that the online induction is completed.

Any relevant area specific induction is organised by the new employee’s Supervisor with specific facility manager. They should complete these inductions prior to commencing work in those areas.
