Finding a solution to a complex problem such as we encounter in medicine and research is difficult but we have good tools which business use to do it better. Design thinking is an iterative process where the discovery step involving empathy, observation and understanding of the users and stakeholders is 50% - so different to what we do currently in research and medicine. This allows us to better understand and define the problem, focus on the user (patient) then design a solution and pilot it.

SCS WiSDoM Committee would like to run the next longer workshop with researchers at all levels (including managers) and make it more practical around what we need to solve. If you have a complex problem in medicine, research or management please email vanalysa.ly@monash.edu the idea. We have already have one proposal - How can we collaborate better across the school, faculty and university but keen to have 3 topics for the workshop.
