Dr Hashrul Rashid receives the RACP Victorian Trainee Research Award for TAVI study

Congratulations to Dr Hashrul Rashid on receiving the Victorian Trainee Research Award by Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).  

Dr Rashid's study has demonstrated certain prosthesis factors that  increase the risk of leaflet thrombosis following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Prosthesis that are under-expanded, implanted deep and misaligned, are associated with leaflet thrombosis. He hopes this will help improve procedural techniques during TAVI to improve valve longevity and clinical safety.

Speaking of the award, Dr Rashid said, "I feel ecstatic to be awarded the best research abstract amongst physician trainees in Victoria". 

The award winners are selected by a panel of renowned researchers and physicians.  Dr Rashid will now represent the state for the national competition in Brisbane in 2021.

Earlier this year, Dr Rashid, a specialist cardiologist at Monash Heart who's undergoing a PhD with the Monash Cardiovascular Research Centre, had won the RACP Trainee of the Year Award.  See news article here.
