These $10,000 prizes are highly prestigious and recognise excellence across science and innovation disciplines. Please engage with your ADR to determine if your faculty is host to exceptional candidates/programs that align with one of the categories, and encourage them to apply. Applicants may submit themselves (self-nominate).
The Categories:
The scheme has 16 categories across research & innovation, leadership, and science engagement.
Individual or Team Research:
- Scientific Research (curiosity-driven research)
- Applied Environmental Research (new focus on climate change, emissions, or bushfire applications)
- Data Science
- Interdisciplinary Scientific Research
- Infectious Disease Research
- Innovative Use of Technology
- Outstanding Science in Safeguarding Australia (defence and security)
Individual or Team Science Engagement:
Individual Awards:
- Outstanding Early Career Researcher (either <35 years old OR <5 years post PhD +career disruptions)
- Emerging Leader in Science (recognising leadership activities, either <35 years old OR <5 years post PhD +career disruptions)
- Leadership in Innovation and Science
- Outstanding Mentor of Young Researchers
- Promoting Understanding of Science (public engagement activities)
Requirements:
Candidates will need to address the application requirements specific to each Prize (age eligibility has been noted above, but additional eligibility criteria apply). Please note: many of the categories require the applicant to provide 2 - 3 assessor reports responding to the judging criteria. Assessors must be familiar with the activity, but cannot be either personally or directly involved in it. Identifying the availability of suitable Assessors should be a priority. Most applications require between 6 and 12 pages of prepared text, including the independent referee assessments.
Support:
The Research Development team will be able to strategically review priority applicants in 2020 in some categories. Please put forward any names for this support by 26th March to allow mro.researchdevelopment@monash.edu time to assist.
