NHMRC Investigator Grants have opened in RGMS

The NHMRC Investigator Grants scheme is now open for applications in RGMS.

The objective of the Investigator Grant scheme is to support the research program of outstanding investigators at all career stages. This scheme provides salary support for the CIA along with a research support package (RSP) to support the direct costs of research activities.

Updated Grant Guidelines (released 5 Dec 2018) and the Grant Proposal template are available on GrantConnect (GO1990). You will need to login to access the documents. We are still waiting for the release of any Peer Review Guidelines for this scheme.

MRO Submission Process Document - available on our Intranet page. The MRO offline template with advice for your application is also located on the intranet page.

Important changes in eligibility - please read
The updated guidelines have provided additional details with regard to the eligibility rules for what individuals can hold and apply for within the new grant program.

Please note: Investigator Grant holders cannot apply for an Ideas Grant, unless they are in the final year of the Investigator Grant at the time of application.

Therefore, please consider carefully the order in which you might apply for the new schemes as if you are awarded an Investigator Grant you will not be eligible to apply for Ideas Grants until you are in the the last year of that Investigator Grant. You can however be awarded up to 2 Ideas Grants (depending on other grants held) and still apply for and be awarded an Investigator Grant (with a reduction in the RSP; depending on other grants held).

Minimum Data
Investigator Grants have a minimum data requirement. Minimum data must be entered into RGMS by 17:00 AEDT on 16 January 2019. Applications that fail to satisfy this requirement will not be accepted. Minimum data for Investigator Grants is comprised of:

  • Administering Institution
  • Application Title
  • Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Research (yes/no)
  • Synopsis
  • Participating Institution(s)
  • Research Classifications (all fields)
  • Category Level.
The MRO will begin checking applications to ensure they meet minimum data requirements in RGMS from 9th January 2019 and will contact you if there are missing sections.
