Diana Egerton-Warburton receives academic promotion at Monash University

Monash Health emergency physician Diana Egerton-Warburton has been recognised for her research and educational leadership with an academic promotion at Monash University.

Adjunct Clinical Professor Egerton-Warburton is Director of Emergency Medicine Research at Monash Medical Centre.  As the Director of Emergency Medicine Training at MMC for over a decade, she has developed and guided a generation of emergency medicine specialistsmany of whom now have leadership and teaching roles nationally.

Some of Professor Egerton-Warburton’s career highlights include her position as President of the Australasian Society for Emergency Medicine from 1997 to 2000.  In 2016 her leadership was recognised with the awarding of Australian Medical Associations, Women in Medicine Award for an ‘outstanding contribution to emergency medicine with a strong passion for public health’. She was inducted onto the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll in 2018.

Professor Egerton-Warburton has been actively involved with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for over two decades, and in 2013 she was awarded the ACEM teaching excellence medal.

A regular invited keynote and plenary speaker, she has presented at national and international meetings, and has published 35 peer-reviewed papers in the last five years.

At Monash University, Professor Egerton-Warburton has been extensively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education and examination, and has supervised higher degree by research (HDR) students.

The total of Professor Egerton-Warburton’s research income to date is in excess of $2.2M, including $1.4M as the Principal Investigator for an investigator initiated multi-site clinical trial: Driving Change.

“This project is a ground-breaking implementation trial of an ED-based data collection and response model to reduce alcohol related harm using an integrated public health approach,” Professor Egerton-Warburton said.

“My project aims to reduce alcohol-related harm in communities by using data collected in EDs to target the sources of the most alcohol related harm.”

Professor Egerton-Warburton said she strives for excellence in her clinical and academic practice.

“I am a passionate advocate for patients, the community and for the health system locally, nationally, and internationally,” Professor Egerton-Warburton said.  

“I believe that ongoing transformational change is required to ensure a sustainable and cost effective medical system.”

Professor Egerton-Warburton said it was a great honour to receive this recognition and academic promotion.

“This has been a team effort and wouldn’t have been possible without the support I have recieved from the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS), Monash Health, the Emergency Department, and the College for Emergency Medicine.

“Having strong mentors over the years has been important for me and I have learn a lot from the people I have mentored,” she said.
