Monash medical students broaden their experience at The Valley Private hospital

In an exciting new initiative, The Valley Private hospital (TVP) will host select Monash final year medical students as part of their learning experience from next year.

The collaborative agreement between public and private hospital systems will allow Monash students to undertake an elective rotation at TVP for the first time.

“Our students will receive exposure and be involved with the entire patient experience at TVP,” said Associate Professor Chris Wright, Academic Director of Clinical Programs.

“This will include didactic lectures, exposure to ward work including the assessment and

investigation of patients, clinical immersion in the operating room, and hands on surgical skill acquisition sessions.”

TVP executive and the surgical specialists have committed to ensuring the elective

experience is of the highest quality.

“The vast majority of our Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) work at Monash University, and together we are keen to make a positive contribution to the training of future generations of doctors,” said The Valley & South Eastern Private Hospitals CEO Mr Neil Henderson.

“The Valley Hospital remains committed to community needs and this new collaborative initiative with Monash University recognises that being involved in training the next generation of doctors is a legacy it considers seriously.”
