Expressions of Interest: SCS Education Director

The aim of this one-year appointment is to establish the role of the SCS Education Director within the School. Funding will be provided to the department from which the position holder is seconded for backfill of that position for a maximum of 0.2 FTE. Applicants should have extensive knowledge of education and learning theories and practice, alongside currency of knowledge and understanding of educational policies and procedures of FMNHS. The SCS Education Director will report to the HoS via the School Executive Committee.

KPIs for 2018 are:
1.       Review and realign the SCS Education Committee to align with Faculty objectives and Chair that committee which reports into the School Executive.
2.       Construct a business case in collaboration with the School Manager and School Finance Manager to expand the role of the Education Director and support the role in the longer term. This will include development plans for short course(s) and or new degree variants.
3.       Assist department and department heads in developing business cases, and connecting to University and Faculty supports,  for new educational offerings from SCS.

Cartherics Research Position Vacant

Research Assistant : Position description

Cartherics is a new, privately owned biotechnology company, focussed on developing cutting edge technologies to empower the immune system to specifically target and eradicate cancer. The focus technology is the ground-breaking technology: Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cells (CAR-T), which have a profound ability to seek and destroy cancer cells. The company has 10 full-time research staff, an Executive Assistant and several expert advisors and is closely linked to the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. It is supported by strong private investment and two recently awarded, highly prestigious government grants: Victorian Government Medical Research Acceleration Award to promote the implementation of a CAR-T clinical trial and a Commonwealth Government CRC-P grant to develop a next generation immune- cell therapy “as an off the shelf “ product for treating gastric and ovarian cancers. The company’s labs and offices are located in the MHTP Building, next to the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, 27-31 Wright Street, Clayton 3168.

The company is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to work closely with the company post-docs on the major research themes. The successful applicant will have the appropriate “hands on” skills in one or more of the following technologies:

(i) production, enrichment and cell transduction of lentivirus and general molecular biology methods;
(ii) isolation, activation, expansion and functional analysis of human blood T cells, including use of multi-parameter flow cytometry;
(iii) Experience in production, maintenance and directed differentiation of iPSC, ideally with an understanding of T cell requirements.

The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor degree with Honours in Science or Biomedical Science or equivalent and ideally 3 or more years of appropriate laboratory experience. They will relish working in a challenging, dynamic, interactive and very exciting environment.

Casual Administrator position available: Liver Clinic

A casual administrator is required for relieving our Liver Clinic Admin Clerk for annual leave, sick leave and ADO's. Initially this would be 1 day per fortnight, but would require availability to cover annual leave over 2-3 week full-time blocks.

Applicant must have a car, to attend our Liver Clinics at Springvale and Cranbourne, as well as Monash Medical Centre.

The position would entail: 
- printing patient labels
- telephone inquiries regarding appointments
- making appointment bookings, including updating referral systems (via the Monash Health booking systems)
- preparation for clinic 

Training will be provided.

Postdoctoral Scientist position available in Cancer Precision Medicine (Ron Firestein's lab)

The Firestein laboratory in the Centre for Cancer Research seeks an experienced Research Officer to initiate and conduct research in the areas of post transcriptional and epigenetic regulation in colon cancer and intestinal development. The position will use state of the art technologies (CRISPR/RNAi, proteomic approaches) to identify and characterise the role of non-coding RNAs and enhancer RNAs in colon cancer and dissect their therapeutic relevance.

Position Vacant - Clinical Research Nurse

The position will complete an ongoing clinical trial at Casey Hospital, Berwick, comparing newborn heart rate and oxygen saturations in the first 30 minutes after birth, in women that receive early or delayed oxytocin administration during delayed cord clamping.
This role, will require someone who is personable (high patient contact role), highly organised (management of study database) and a willingness to learn and work in a dynamic and research focused environment.
Your main responsibilities will be:
·         Identification of suitable candidates from antenatal clinic lists
·         Recruitment of women from these lists and those presenting in the early stages of labour, to obtain written, informed consent prior to delivery
·         Randomisation of patients
·         Placement of pulse oximetry on the newborn immediately after delivery and recording of data for up to 30 minutes.
If you are a Registered Nurse Division I or II, neonatal nurse or midwife and a current practicing certificate with excellent communication and organizational skills we welcome your application.
Travel to associated hospitals is required so a valid Victorian driver’s licence is essential

Administrative Officer (Communications Office)

Hudson Institute is seeking an Administrative Officer (TAP5) to work in the Communications Office. This position will support the Hudson Institute priorities of growing our profile and increasing engagement externally, with our partners and internally.

This position will be responsible for:
·         Coordination and support for Hudson Institute events and meetings,
·         Scientific Poster printing
·         Assisting with the development of communication materials such as presentations, reports, newsletters
·         Maintenance of the Hudson Institute website and intranet content and analytics
·         Collation of information for Hudson Institute reports including, the Annual Report, Student Open day booklets
·         Maintenance of Hudson Communications and Fundraising databases
·         Other general communications support

Lab Manager

Cartherics is seeking a Laboratory Manager as a key position in its very active research and development program. The successful applicant will have an intense desire to succeed in a competitive environment and relish the challenge of helping to identify and implement new technologies and equipment; the rewards will be substantial.
The successful applicant will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer of Cartherics.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience in the stem cell and immunology-based research environment. In particular, they will:

(i)                 have hands-on skills at the laboratory bench level including handling of human and animal tissues, so they he/she can better appreciate the researchers needs, and be able to participate in experimental procedures where possible. These will also ensure smooth running of the laboratory environment;
(ii)               have a strong background in understanding the equipment and technologies required for cutting edge immunology (especially cell based and cytokines) and stem cell research and interfacing with relevant suppliers;
(iii)             provide informed and expert advice in relation to experimental planning and technologies available as relevant;
(iv)              have experience in resourcing, evaluating, ordering, implementing and maintaining a broad range of laboratory reagents and equipment experience in ethics, OHS and other regulations relevant to medical research;
(v)                ensure PC2 guideline adherence, waste management and safety;
(vi)              understand the requirements and confidentialities for corporate funded research;
(vii)            be able to liaise with a broad range of personnel from students to senior researchers and upper level corporate Management;
(viii)          have direct supervisory responsibility for more junior technical staff members in the scientific area; 
(ix)              have organisational skills required for data management, meetings and documentation of standard operating procedures;
(x)                will have proficiency in a wide range of IT hardware and software packages and skills in electronic lab data book systems and general computer management
(xi)              will facilitate researchers and staff to access relevant systems and training opportunities.

Anticipated Salary Level - Base: Lab Manager – expected salary $87, 581 (Range $80,000-120,000) plus superannuation and other statutory benefits.

Monash University - Rossjohn lab Post-doc job advertisement

Prof. Jamie Rossjohn FAA FLSW, ARC Australian Laureate Fellow & Head, Infection and Immunity Theme, Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, seeks talented T-cell immunologists to join his research group under the auspices of the recently awarded ARC Laureate Fellowship. The selected candidates will pioneer new areas of T-cell biology, in the context of lipid and metabolite-mediated immunity, at Monash University, Clayton campus.


The Rossjohn laboratory has provided profound insight into T-cell biology, specifically defining the basis of key immune recognition events by T-cells, spanning peptide, lipid and metabolite immunity, both in the context of protective and aberrant immunity. Many researchers within the laboratory have secured National Fellowships, Grants and Awards.

Casual RA position for 3 months at The Ritchie Centre

The Infant and Child Health group within the Ritchie Centre has a casual position available for a research assistant or recent postdoc to complete a systematic review for a NHMRC safe infant sleeping guideline. The successful application will be familiar with searching online data bases such as PubMed and PsychInfo to identify relevant publications. Experience in completing a meta analysis would be an advantage but is not essential. The position is available from 26 September for approximately 3 months.  Hourly rate is $33.47 plus 25% casual loading.

Internal Vacancy - Casual Technical Assistants - The Ritchie Centre

Casual workers wanted in Embryology and Placental Biology Laboratory.
Duties include:
1. Processing human blood and urine samples ~2-3h / day Wednesday and Friday.
2. On call (rotating roster - can be out of hours) processing of human birth samples (placenta, cord blood and maternal blood and urine) ~2h / birth.
Some experience handling human tissues and excellent pipetting skills are required. Training in standard operating procedures will be provided. Positions available for immediate start. 

Hourly rate - TAP 2 Step 3 - $24.94 plus 25% casual loading
