Expression of Interest – Casual Research Support Officer Department of Surgery

Professor Yahya Shehabi is seeking expressions of interest for a Casual Research Support Officer to join his research group in the Department of Surgery involved in intensive care unit trials. The role will involve helping with screening, consent, randomisation, data collection, and training staff on trials processes.

Experience in a previous research support or co-ordinator role is required. Research experience in an Intensive Care Unit is desirable. The precise hours are negotiable, with an estimation of approximately 24 – 30 hours per week required. Initially, Professor Shehabi is seeking the position for the next 12 months.

Expressions of Interest: SCS Education Director

The aim of this one-year appointment is to establish the role of the SCS Education Director within the School. Funding will be provided to the department from which the position holder is seconded for backfill of that position for a maximum of 0.2 FTE. Applicants should have extensive knowledge of education and learning theories and practice, alongside currency of knowledge and understanding of educational policies and procedures of FMNHS. The SCS Education Director will report to the HoS via the School Executive Committee.

KPIs for 2018 are:

1.       Review and realign the SCS Education Committee to align with Faculty objectives and Chair that committee which reports into the School Executive.

2.       Construct a business case in collaboration with the School Manager and School Finance Manager to expand the role of the Education Director and support the role in the longer term. This will include development plans for short course(s) and or new degree variants.

3.       Assist department and department heads in developing business cases, and connecting to University and Faculty supports,  for new educational offerings from SCS.

About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate to undertake the Business Management within the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation. Ideally you should have experience in research, research management, and project co-ordination. This position will manage the business for a team of researchers running clinical research programs, translation and implementation programs, methodological platforms as well as providing support to casual staff and Higher Degree Research students as required. Whilst these staff and students will not report to the manager, they will engage and support HR, finance and business development and funding proposals and in engagement across Monash Health.

Since 1995, the Premier’s Award for Health & Medical Research (Premier’s Award) has been awarded annually to recognise the exceptional contributions made by early career health and medical researchers in their PhD studies.

An exciting and evolving range of new and repeated CEED modules are being offered during Semester 2. Registrations are now open and the complete schedule can be viewed online at monash.edu/ceed.

During July, the following five modules aimed to enhance your teaching and innovation are being offered:

·       Mentoring for teaching improvement via PATS

·       Leading change through creating value

·       Mindful learning

·       Foundations for teaching associates

·       Building on Foundations for teaching associates.

Teaching associates who have undertaken Foundations for Teaching Associates are encouraged to take part it Building on Foundations for Teaching Associates. Both modules will commence on Monday 4 July and will continue to be offered concurrently each semester.

The two modules offered until December are:

·       Capture your learning and teaching engagement  (two-hour express module)
·       Exploring technology enhanced assessment.

New modules starting later in the semester include:

·       Creating and enhancing a community of practice
·       Practising human ethics in the SoTL.

In 2016 full time tenured academics levels A-C must complete three CEED modules as part of their professional development.

The completion of CEED modules can also be used towards meeting the new Education Performance Standards.
