Merck Innovation Cup 2020 (10th Anniversary) - Applications now open

From 20-26 June 2020, Merck will be hosting the 10th Anniversary Innovation Cup Summer Camp near Frankfurt, Germany, and are inviting post-graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from Monash University to apply now – deadline 31 January 2020.

Save the Date ‐ 2017 MNHS Graduate Research Supervisor & Staff Forum, 2 May

Tuesday 2 May, 9am - 12pm, Monash Club, 32 Exhibition Walk (previously building 50), Clayton Campus

The Associate Dean (Graduate Research), Professor Nellie GeorgiouKaristianis, warmly invites you to attend the Faculty’s Annual Graduate Research Supervisor and Staff Forum.

The Forum aims to cover important topics, including:
o   What changes have been recently made in graduate research?
o   What does our current graduate research landscape look like?
o   What are the Faculty’s latest strategies in graduate research?
o   Intellectual Property – why it’s important and who owns the research
o   Monash Doctoral Program – what’s new including myDevelopment

Who should attend?
All supervisors of graduate research students are strongly encouraged to attend. 

The forum provides an opportunity to learn more and become familiar with these important matters, and hear directly from the experts on how they affect your role. Come along to learn this valuable information and network with your colleagues.

Other important information
Morning tea provided – please advise when registering if you have any dietary requirements.

Note that this forum will be held in the morning with the Science-Medicine Affinity Workshop (including lunch) to follow immediately after from 12-3pm on the Clayton Campus – this event is coordinated by the Research Team in the Faculty Research Office with registration details to be announced shortly.

Unfortunately video conferencing facilities are not available (we are limited as during semester) however, we aim to circulate presentations to those who are unable to attend.

myDevelopment: Now available for graduate research students

Monash Graduate Education is excited to enhance the graduate research student experience of the Monash Doctoral Program through the launch of the myDevelopment system. 

Visit the myDevelopment web page for information, user guides, and support for students and staff. A link to GRAMs has been provided on the myDevelopment webpage, to allow students who commenced prior to 2017 to cross check against their GRAMS training record.

Postgraduate Publications Award (PPA)

Nominations for Round 2 due 1st April, 2017.

Student due to submit their thesis for examination between 1 April - 30 June are encouraged to apply for the PPA. Recipients of the PPA receive a living allowance for up to 8 weeks. More information about this award can be found at this website

Writing and Communication - Support Services for Graduate Research Students

Writing and communication are not only essential aspects of the graduate research student training process, but are skills for life.

Monash University provides a range of workshops and online resources to support students with writing and oral communication of research. Below we provide a list of support programs available should you need further development of these skill sets. 

Monash Graduate Education - Graduate Researcher Development
Monash Graduate Education deliver professional development training modules and workshops to assist with writing and communication. English Connect
English Connect provides specifically tailored programs. These have been developed in consultation with international students to ensure that they cover those areas most relevant to student needs. Professional Editing Assistance
If you are planning to use a professional editor for your thesis, please see the Guidelines for Editing Research Theses, which form part of the Australian Standards for Editing Practices.

Where a thesis or dissertation is to have input from a professional editor, the student must obtain written permission from the main supervisor. The student should supply the editor a copy of this permission, along with the thesis or manuscript for editing. For more information, please see section 7.1 of the Doctoral Degrees Handbook:
