previous BMedSc(Hons) students (2 minutes each). There will be plenty of
opportunity for questions and answers, and to informally mix with prospective students afterwards.

Welcome BMedSc(Hons) cohort 2018
We extend a warm welcome to our 2018 BMedSc(Hons) cohort.
This year, the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health has enrolled 34 BMedSc(Hons) students, most of whom have completed Year 4.
Five students will undertake their project overseas (the UK and Denmark) and another two are interstate (Tasmania and NSW).
Projects span basic science to clinical translational research, and include medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, oncology, surgery, psychiatry, opthamology and gastroenterology.

will host a Bachelor of Medical Science (Hons) information night to
recruit BMedSc(Hons) students for 2018. We encourage your attendance as this is a good opportunity to make contact with a potential research student.

SCS student awarded MCRI Honours Scholarship

Congratulations Monash medical
student Joanna Huang who has been awarded the prestigious Murdoch Children's
Research Institute Honours Award Scholarship for her research into ventricular
assist devices.
A BMedSc(Hons) student at the
School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS), Joanna is investigating the
bleeding and clotting rates in children on ventricular assist devices—a form of
mechanical circulatory support—for children with end-stage heart failure.
Joanna said these devices are
used to help bridge children to heart transplantation, given the long waiting
times and low rates of organ donation in Australia.
“Bleeding and clotting are common
adverse events but have not been studied extensively in the paediatric
population,” Joanna said.
“Hopefully this research will
provide information to reduce the rates of bleeding and clotting and improve
outcomes of the children on these devices.”
