Emeritus Professor David Kissane AC has been honoured at a dinner held on Monday, 18 November 2019 to mark his retirement, and acknowledge and celebrate his service to Monash University and his profession.

Professor Kissane held the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry before it joined the School of Clinical Sciences in 2014, whilst also maintaining his clinical and research commitments in the field of psycho-oncology and palliative medicine.

Current and former colleagues and students from Monash University and Cabrini Hospital joined Professor Kissane at the dinner, which was hosted by SCS Head of School, Professor Eric Morand.

Professor Morand thanked Professor Kissane for his dedication and leadership of the department over the past five years. “Monash University is delighted Professor Kissane will remain part of the Monash family as an Emeritus Professor,” said Professor Morand.

Professor David Clarke, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Program Director of Mental Health at Monash Health, also paid tribute to Professor Kissane acknowledging his long and extremely distinguished career as a scholar, clinician, and academic.

In 2018, Professor Kissane was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for his eminent service to psychiatry, particularly psycho-oncology and palliative medicine, as an educator, researcher, author and clinician, and through executive roles with a range of national and international professional medical bodies.
