Online Animal Ethics Training for SCS Animal Users

From Hudson Animal Ethics Office

Dear Investigators,

We are pleased to announce that animal ethics training will now be offered online through  myDevelopment. Simply log in, search for “animal ethics” and complete the training at your convenience. This online training replaces the in-person sessions that we used to run each quarter.

Investigators using the Hudson AECs (MMCA and MMCB) are only required to complete Module 1 at this stage. Researchers will be advised by the Hudson Animal Ethics Office about further training requirements in the near future. Module 1 is called “Animal Ethics 101 - Understanding your legal responsibilities”; it covers the regulatory framework governing the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. It takes about 20-30 minutes and you need to achieve a score of 80% to complete the module.

Module 2 has important compliance information that is relevant to all researchers and can also be accessed. Module 2 it is not compulsory at this stage for MMC-based researchers, as the application process for the Hudson AEC is different to Monash Uni: Animal Ethics 102 - Getting started - Using animals at Monash University covers the application process (for Monash University-based researchers) and the basics of compliance.

Action required:

  • New investigators must complete Module 1 of the online training before they can be added to a project.
  • All investigators currently listed on MMCA or MMCB AEC projects have until 31 December 2019 to complete the modules. After that time, you will not be approved to be listed on new projects unless you have completed the training.
  • AECs may require the online training for external collaborators, depending on their role in a project. Check out our website for instructions on how external users and undergraduate students can access the training.

We really hope that you enjoy the training and find it useful. As always, feel free to contact us if you have questions, concerns or feedback.
