The BBVA Foundation, in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), is pleased to announce the twelfth edition of the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards, and to invite you to participate by nominating a candidate or candidates through the institution to which you belong,following the instructions provided in the call conditions. This same information can be consulted on the Foundation website.
The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards recognize and reward world-class research and artistic creation, prizing contributions of singular impact for their originality and significance. The scheme distinguishes particularly significant scientific advances of a theoretical, methodological or empirical nature, technological innovations and developments, and outstanding contributions in the social and humanistic domains. Honors also go to achievements of excellence in performance, composition, musical and stage direction, and the creation of video art associated with musical or operatic works. Finally, a category is reserved for endeavors directed at analyzing and acting against climate change.
The eight categories of the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards:
- Basic Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
- Biology and Biomedicine
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Ecology and Conservation Biology
- Climate Change
- Economics, Finance and Management
- Humanities and Social Sciences
- Music and Opera
The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards in each category come with €400,000 prize money, a diploma and a commemorative artwork.
Candidates may be one or more natural persons of any nationality, without limitation of number, that have made independent or convergent contributions to a given advance, whether due to a formal collaboration (with the nominees belonging to one or more groups) or parallel working. The awards are also open to scientific or cultural organizations that can be collectively credited with exceptional contributions to scientific knowledge, cultural creation or the fight against climate change.
The BBVA Foundation will be aided in candidate pre-selection by CSIC, Spain's premier multidisciplinary public research organization. This stage will be in charge of evaluation support panels made up of leading experts in the corresponding area. The collaboration between the Foundation and CSIC endorses the objectivity, independence and standards of excellence informing the award process.
The awards themselves will be decided by eight committees, one for each category, formed by international authorities in the subject matter. Committee members will be appointed by the BBVA Foundation in consultation with CSIC, whose current president will designate the person to serve as chair.
The submission closing date is 30 June 2019 at 23:00 GMT.
