Internationally renowned Professor of Paediatrics joins MHTP

Prof Katrina Williams

The Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP) welcomes the appointment of Katrina Williams as Head, Department of Paediatrics, Monash University and Professor of Paediatrics, Monash Children’s Hospital.


Professor Williams is a paediatrician and public health physician who has worked as a specialist clinician and researcher for over 20 years, following her training in Darwin, Sydney and London. She is widely published, has co-authored a book for parents called ‘Understanding autism. The essential Guide for Parents’ and is actively involved in research, training, advocacy and clinical care for children and young people with neurodisability.  

An internationally-renowned clinician and researcher, Professor Williams has been the Apex Australia Chair of Developmental Medicine, Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne since 2011.  As Head of the Royal Children’s Hospital Department of Neurodevelopment and Disability, she has led major advances in programs for the care of children with neurodisability.

Professor Williams has made significant world-first contributions to the field of neurodevelopment, particularly in her research on autism, and to clinical epidemiology and research methods.

Professor Williams said she is looking forward to building on the many strengths of child health research, training and care that already exist at Monash University, Monash Health, the Hudson Institute and The Ritchie Centre.

“I’m excited about the opportunity this new role brings for developing innovative research and best care to improve the lives of children and young people today and in the future,” Professor Williams said.

Professor Williams will start her new positions at the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health (SCS) and the Monash Children's Hospital on 29 January, 2019.
