Update on MHTP Flow Cytometry Facilities

Michael Thomson has recently commenced as Manager of our MHTP Flow Cytometry research facility. Prior to commencing at MHTP, Michael was Manager of the Flow Cytometry Facility at St Vincent's Institute for several years, which followed being Assistant Manager in the Flow Cytometry Posistion at the Burnet Institute.

Our MHTP Flow Cytometry facility is also going through the transition of becoming the first Node of Monash Flowcore. It will soon be relocating and operational on the Technologies Platform  Floor - Level 4 of the TRF building. This is anticipated to be finalised by the beginning of April 2017. The new Platform will house a new  5-Laser 18-Parameter BD FACS Aria Fusion Cell Sorter in a Class II Baker Hood, and a 5-Laser 18-Parameter BD Fortessa X-20 Analyser. These new instruments will be in addition to the facilities existing - MoFlow XDP Cell Sorter and BD Canto-II Analyser.

At present, booking instruments is via the exisiting processes, however we will transition to the ARIN booking system once the Node has commenced. This is the system currently used by Monash Flowcore on the University Campus, Histology, Medical Genomics, etc.

Details of the MHTP Flowcore operation and bookings transition will be confirmed in the near future.
Introductory Seminars we will also be held to assist with the transition .

Michael looks forward to supporting you with Flow Cytometry questions, discussing projects or providing advice to support your research and can be contracted via

We hope you will take the opportunity to meet our new Platform manager soon.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any further queries.

Flow Cytometry update on service arrangements

Dear Flow Cytometry Users,

Recently, Flow Cytometry Research Scientist Ms Jean Bulter resigned from her position within the Facility.
While a suitable candidate is sought to support researchers within the MHTP Flow Facility, for those requiring support with Flow sorting, it is advised to please use Flowcore on the Monash University campus.  https://platforms.monash.edu/flowcore/
There are plans to upgrade MHTP Flow Cytometry Equipment soon and we will keep you updated on this progress and any outcomes.

In the interim, Cell analysis can be undertaken on the Analysers in Block E, Level 3 labs and James Ngui, or one of the immunology staff, may be able to kindly assist.

Please do not hesitate to contact Vivien Vasic (Vivien.Vasic@hudson.org.au) if you have any questions in the interim.
