NHMRC recognises that COVID-19 is an exceptional circumstance that requires a flexible approach to eligibility in the 2020 round. We have updated the Ideas Grants 2020 Guidelines to include guidance for NHMRC grant holders whose existing grant portfolio would make them ineligible to apply for an Ideas Grant in the 2020 application round, if they extended a current grant.
The guidance is specifically for those who are in their final year of funding (e.g. for a Project Grant or Program Grant) and need to extend their grants due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this extension could affect their eligibility. This flexibility is only expected to affect a very small number of applicants (for example, those who hold both an Ideas Grant and multiple final-year Project Grants, or those who hold a final-year Program Grant, which would make them ineligible to apply in the 2020 application round if they extended those grants).
