A final year PhD student in the Department of Obstetics and Gynaecology, Ms Rivers is based in the Education Program in Reproduction and Development (EPRD) Reproductive Biology lab. Her research is focused on assisted reproduction in fish conservation- namely the application of gonadal cryopreservation, cell surrogacy and in vitro cell culture. Ms Rivers's work aims to develop ex situ conservation strategies for Australian freshwater fish species, many of which are predicted to go extinct in the next 20 years.
Speaking of the award, Ms Rivers said, "I loved drawing as a kid so the idea of merging my love of art and science together for this entry was too good to be true. I had a lot of fun putting the video together- the fact that it won is just a bonus!".
