Congratulations to
Associate Professor Julie Brimblecombe, Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food, on receiving a NHMRC grant of $1,508,144 for her research, "Evaluation of a community-led nutrition and lifestyle program for weight loss and metabolic health: a randomised controlled trial".
This research will provide a unique opportunity for A/Prof Brimblecombe to work with
Yolngu researchers and other academics and service providers to shape a program to prevent and manage type 2 diabetes and related conditions with a community in North East Arnhem Land that has Yolngu culture, ways of knowing, and food beliefs at its core.

"Diet for First Nations Australians was changed drastically with colonisation. Diet modification leading to even moderate weight loss, drastically improves cardiometabolic health in people who are overweight.", said A/Prof Brimblecombe.

Speaking of her research, she said, "This research will assess change in BMI as the primary outcome and other risks of cardiometabolic disease including blood pressure, lipids, inflammatory markers, insulin, blood glucose, diet and physical activity and Yolngu perspectives on the benefits of the program".
