SCS researchers receive Heart Foundation fellowships and grants

Dr Connie Wong
The Heart Foundation has announced the recipients of their 2019 research grants, which go towards supporting researchers investigating the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and related disorders.

The Heart Foundation invests in research across a range fellowships, scholarships, and grants, including the Future Leader Fellowships and Vanguard Grants.

Associate Professor Dennis Wong and Dr Sarah Zaman were awarded Future Leader Fellowships, which provide support to cardiovascular researchers as they build their research capacity. Associate Professor Wong's fellowship will support his research into pericoronary fat attenuation index and coronary inflammation, while Dr Zaman received her fellowship for research into atherosclerotic heart disease in women.

Associate Professor Graeme Polglase and Dr Connie Wong received the Heart Foundation's Vanguard Grants, which are given to researchers for concept studies with the potential to improve cardiovascular health in the short term. Associate Professor Polglase's grant will fund research into improving cardiopulmonary resuscitation of newborn babies in the delivery room, while Dr Wong's funding will support her research into brain-gut axis in stroke.

Congratulations to our SCS researchers on their wonderful achievements.
