Monash University is undertaking a copyright survey/audit from 26 Aug to 17 Nov 2019 inclusive. This is a legal requirement under the Educational copyright licence, established under the Copyright Act 1968.
Your area's multi-function copiers will be monitored as part of the survey.
All photocopies (only) made at these devices should be documented on forms that will be provided.
What you need to do:
1. Each time you photocopy at a photocopier over this period, you must complete a survey form.
2. Where you are making copies of unpublished material (e.g. memos, emails, minutes of meetings), use the provided form to record how many pages you copied.
3. When you are making copies of published material (book chapters, journal or newspaper articles), complete the published materials form and photocopy and attach to the form enough information for auditors to identify the work you are copying. This will allow them to distribute royalties to authors and publishers of the material.
Forms and posters will be available at the photocopiers. These should not be removed during the course of the survey.
Note the survey only applies to photocopies, not to scanning of material or to collected printing.
Each week auditors will check the photocopiers and compare how many pages have been copied with the numbers listed on the forms.
If the results do not tally, your area may have to repeat the survey until compliance is achieved.
If you have any questions about the survey and the requirements, please contact the Copyright Adviser, Megan Deacon on university.copyright@monash.edu or 9905 5732 or Nandhini Nehru on 990 52680 or nandhini.nehru@monash.edu
