Title: Germ line surrogacy in native fish species for
improvement of conservation and aquaculture practices
Synopsis: Fish populations are declining and there are
limited methods available to develop breeding programs for these
species. By combining the cryopreservation of germ line progenitor cells
with cell transplant techniques it is possible to preserve
the biodiversity of Australian fish and potentially improve offspring
production using a surrogate species. Developing assisted
reproductive techniques in fish has widespread applications to conservation and
aquaculture.
