Invitation to attend the Inaugural Lecture by Professor Maini, University of Oxford, 14 Sept

This lecture is presented by Professor Philip Maini, Director, Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology at the University of Oxford on "Case Studies in Modelling Collective Cell Motion in Biology".

Professor Maini will review three examples of collective cell motion in biology, ranging from the classical approach through coupled systems of partial differential equations (acid-mediated cell invasion in cancer), to hybrid cellular automata (cranial neural crest cell invasion) to cell sheet dynamics (colorectal crypt homeostasis). It will be shown how these studies have led to new biological predictions which have been validated experimentally and to new, open questions, in mathematical analysis.
