Workshop Invitation : Arab Cultural Competence - 8 Rules of Engagement Monday 16 February

This briefing workshop for academic and professional staff addresses key cultural attributes and gives 8 methods for positive engagement with students and the broader community and will cover:

  • Heritage world view
  • Faith practice
  • Arabic language
  • Pedigree and names
  • Status, hierarchy and avoidance
  • Gender issues
  • Pedagogy
  • Academic aspirations

Note: Although there is no charge for this workshop staff failing to attend without providing three business days notice will incur a $50 administration fee therefore your cost centre and fund details are required. If you are unable to attend but are able to send a colleague in your place you will not be charged the fee.

Tea, coffee and a light afternoon tea will be provided.



Dr Fiona Hill is a Cultural Anthropologist & Educator with 30 years commercial, educational, cultural and philanthropic Arab Region experience.

Fiona is a National Director of the Australia-Arab Chamber of Commerce & Industry (AACCI) and Executive Committee Member of the Victoria Chapter. In 2008 she gained an Australian Government Endeavour Executive Award to observe for three months at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
